Pallekele to host first two Test of Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka

Due to COVID-19 pandemic , the prescheduled series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was cancelled. The postponed series has rescheduled recently and the dates and venues for the matches has also announced as well. The two teams will meet on October 24 . Although the final announcement has not been made yet, it is known that the first two matches of this series will be played in Kandy’s Pallekele.

Although, the Coronavirus Pandemic is still haunting around the world , the BCB has reached an agreement with the Lankan board to play the Test Championship as Sri Lanka is one of the few countries in the world where the Corona situation has progressed. Though three T20 matches were offered during the tour, in the end it did not see the light of happening.

According to the BCB, the cricketers will leave the country by the end of next month to take part in this series. The High performance Unit will accompany the team on the tour. The BCB cannot say the exact number of players without announcing the team.

However, the Daily Mirror quoted the BCB as saying that the Tiger Board is taking a 45-member squad with a high performance for the tour of Sri Lanka. Besides, 20-25 support staff members also will be with the team.

Although the day of the first Test is final, the venue has not been confirmed. However, sources in the board said the first two matches of the three-match Test series will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. The third and final Test will be held in Colombo.

The Bangladesh team will also have to conduct regular corona tests during the tour of Sri Lanka. It has reported that , During the tour of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh players and members of the coaching staff will go through regular corona tests. If anyone tests positive ,he will be sent to initial camp at Colombo.
